Newcastle is a vibrant mix of historic, contemporary, cultural and stylish attractions and has become a world leader in culture. Here you can enjoy incredible architecture, cosmopolitan cuisine and world-class art. With a 2000 years old heritage and history and with world famous attractions in such a compact area there is something for our students to explore easily. Right in the heart of North East England, it is known as a very friendly, sustainable and lively city. You will experience fabulous festivals and events all year round.
Newcastle is also known for its amazing night-life and superb shopping and all surrounded by some of the most beautiful coast and countryside in Britain. Football is some kind of a religion in the North East. Newcastle United Football Club is based at St James’ Park, the 3rd biggest stadium in England, right in the centre of the city. With a stunning architecture, many art galleries and museums, music venues and concerts around the city, its massive selection of shops, you can find everything, from stylish boutiques to vintage shops and markets!
Newcastle has something for everyone and we are sure that our students will not leave disappointed, it is also a great base for exploring the North East and Scotland, visiting attractions such as Alnwick Castle or Hadrian’s Wall or amazing cities like Edinburgh or York! There is so much to explore!
Example of a one week programme in Newcastle upon Tyne:
This is an example of your educational programme in Newcastle Day 1: Travel to England (flights with Ryanair, Easyjet & Jet2 are the main airlines but we could use other airlines to arrange your flights)
On your arrival to the airport you will be met by a representative of World Language School. If you flight directly to Newcastle airport, the families will meet the group at the airport. If your flight is to another airport, the transfer will be made in a private coach.
Days 2 to 4: English Tuition and Cultural and Educational Activities
On the first day of lessons, the host families will take the students to and from school.
Lessons can take place in the mornings (9am – 1pm) or afternoons (2pm – 6pm), depending on the availability.
Packed Lunch – provided by the host family (includes sandwiches, crisps, fruit, water or juice)
The activities include:
– Tour of the city of Newcastle (History, Location, Shopping);
– Visit and educational activity in the Old Newcastle;
– Visit to Durham (World Site Heritage)
Day 5: Full day excursion to York
Meet at 8.45am
Travel by train with arrival in York at 10.30am
Tour and educational activity about York
Visit to the York Minster
Free time and return to Newcastle by train at 4.30pm
Day 6: Full day excursion to Edinburgh
Meet at 7:20 am
Travel by train or bus with arrival in Edinburgh at 9:20 am
Guided tour in Edinburgh (Old Town)
Visit to Edinburgh Castle *only if requested directly by the school/group. Minimum 10 p/group
Visit to the Nacional Museum of Scotland
Free time and return to Newcastle by train or bus at 5.30pm
Day 7: Free day: (This can include one or more of the following)
Lunch with the Host Families and Host Family Day (depending on the families availability)
And/or: Individual free time (if previous arranged and authorized by the group leader)
And/or: Group activities and group shopping (if previous arranged and authorized by the group leader)
Day 8: Return home
The families will take their students to the airport or your transfer will be made in a private coach or by train.
